Details:

Marein is a glucoside chalcone with good antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive, antihyperlipidemic and antidiabetic effects. Marein has a neuroprotective effect because it reduces mitochondrial function damage and activates AMPK signal pathway. Marein improves insulin resistance induced by high glucose in HepG2 cells through CaMKK/AMPK/GLUT1 to promote glucose uptake, through IRS/Akt/GSK-3β to increase glycogen synthesis, and through Akt/FoxO1 to decrease gluconeogenesis. It scavenges DPPH radicals (IC50 = 48.35 μM) in a cell-free assay and is an EGFR and HDAC inhibitor with IC50s of 19.94 and 100 μM, respectively.
