Appearance: White or light yellow powder. Has wetting properties and is stable to chemicals, heat, and light. Odorless and tasteless. CMC is a polymer obtained by carboxymethylation of cellulose. Pure carboxymethyl cellulose has no practical value, and its sodium salt is actually used.
Purpose: Biochemical research. The maximum use is to prepare soap and synthetic detergents, adding approximately 1% CMC to heavy-duty cleaners to prevent washed out dirt from settling on fabrics. Secondly, it is used as a suspension stabilizer for drilling mud in the petroleum industry. As an additive in the paper industry, it can improve the longitudinal strength and smoothness of paper. As a coating, it can improve the printability of paper. In the food industry, it can be used as a thickener, a lotion stabilizer and an ice crystal inhibitor for ice cream; Used as a thickener for pulp and printing and dyeing pulp in the textile industry; In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used as an emulsion stabilizer for injections, a binder for tablets, and a film-forming agent; Used as a thickener in cosmetics, ceramics, and other production processes.
