Product Description:
Cholesterol, also known as cholesterol, is a derivative of cyclopentane polyhydrophenanthrene, which is an important component of various membrane phase structures of human cells and nerve myelin. A normal person with a body weight of 70 kg contains about 140 grams of cholesterol. It is widely found in animals, especially in brain and nervous tissue, and is also high in kidney, spleen, skin, liver and bile. Its solubility is similar to fat, insoluble in water, soluble in ether, chloroform and other solvents.
Cholesterol is related to human tissues, bile acids and hormones, and is an indispensable important substance in animal tissue cells. It not only participates in the formation of cell membranes, but also is a precursor to the synthesis of bile acids, steroid hormones and vitamin D3. There are two sources of it, exogenous from the diet, endogenous from the body's own synthesis. When exogenous cholesterol increases, endogenous synthesis can be reflexively inhibited. Fat in the diet helps cholesterol absorption. It can be metabolized into bile acids or steroid hormones. Its absorption also depends on the intake, high intake will reduce the percentage of absorption, the person absorbs cholesterol at high levels of less than 10%, the rest is excreted through the stool. Dietary cholesterol is absorbed into the blood in the form of chylomicrons. Since it is insoluble in water, it is transported in the blood in combination with lipoproteins. The physiological function of cholesterol is to form cell membranes, nerve myelin, brain, and can be converted into bile acids and steroid hormones. Two main types of lipoproteins are involved in cholesterol transport: low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and high-density lipoproteins (HDL). The former can transport it from the liver to the tissue cells throughout the body, while the latter transport it from the tissue cells to the liver. The cholesterol content in human blood can reflect the overall metabolic status of human cholesterol. The contents of fasting plasma total cholesterol in normal adults ranged from 2.83 to 5.17mmol/L. Abnormal cholesterol metabolism can easily lead to cholesterol deposition in the inner wall of blood vessels.

Application:

1. Cholesterol can be used as emulsifier, artificial bezoar, vitamin D, liquid crystal, raw materials for synthetic hormones, and also used as an analytical reference for biochemical research.

2. It can also be used for cephalin cholesterol flocculation test. Cholesterol is the main component of biofilms, and about 25% of total cephalin is cholesterol.
