Product Description:
Butylated hydroxyanisole, commonly abbreviated as BHA, is a significant antioxidant. It typically appears as a white or slightly yellowish waxy solid. Structurally, it contains a phenolic hydroxyl group and tert-butyl substituents. In the food industry, it's widely used to prevent the oxidation of fats and oils, thereby extending the shelf life of numerous food products like baked goods, snacks, and processed meats. By inhibiting rancidity, it helps maintain flavor, texture, and nutritional value. In cosmetics and personal care products, it safeguards ingredients from oxidative degradation, ensuring the stability and efficacy of creams, lotions, and lipsticks. In the pharmaceutical sector, it can be incorporated into formulations to protect active ingredients that are sensitive to oxidation. Additionally, in the packaging industry, it may be added to materials in small amounts to prevent the degradation of products during storage. However, due to potential health concerns at high doses, its use is regulated. Overall, BHA is a versatile compound with important applications in multiple industries.
Application:
As a fat-soluble antioxidant, butyl hydroxyanisole is suitable for fat food and fat rich food. Because of its good thermal stability, it can be used in oil frying or baking conditions. In addition, the antioxidant effect of BHA on animal fat was strong, but the antioxidant effect on unsaturated vegetable fat was poor. Bha can stabilize the pigment of raw beef and inhibit the oxidation of ester compounds.
