Soda ash (Na?CO?), or sodium carbonate, is a white powdered inorganic compound that dissolves easily in water and is strongly alkaline in aqueous solution (pH≈11.6). It is an important basic chemical raw material, widely used in glass, chemical industry, metallurgy, detergent and other fields.

1. Stable chemical properties
Strong alkalinity: can neutralize acidic substances, adjust pH value, widely used in industrial neutralization reactions.
Thermal stability: Not easily decomposed at high temperatures, suitable for high-temperature processes such as glass and metallurgy.

2. Easy to obtain raw materials and low cost
Natural mineral sources: can be extracted through natural alkali minerals (such as natural alkali stones) or industrially produced through the Solvay process (ammonia alkali method).
Large scale production: The global annual output exceeds 60 million tons, with China as the main producer and significant cost advantages.

3 Multifunctionality
Flux: Lowering the melting point of silicon dioxide is a key raw material for glass manufacturing.
Softener: Reacts with calcium and magnesium ions in water to remove scale.

4. Environmental compatibility
Non toxic and harmless: The decomposition products are carbon dioxide and carbonate, with minimal impact on the environment.
Substitution of polluting substances: In some scenarios, it can replace sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) to reduce the risk of strong corrosiveness.

1 Glass industry
Flat glass and container glass: accounting for more than 50% of the total consumption of soda ash, reducing the melting point of silica sand and improving the fluidity of glass.
Manufacturing of special glass, such as optical glass and photovoltaic glass.

2. Chemical production
Synthetic detergent: used as an auxiliary to enhance stain removal ability (such as laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent).
Carbonate preparation: Production of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), sodium silicate (water glass), etc.
Dyes and pigments: Adjusting the pH value of the reaction system.

3 Water Treatment and Environmental Protection
Industrial wastewater treatment: neutralize acidic wastewater and precipitate heavy metal ions.
Boiler water softening: prevents pipeline scaling and improves thermal efficiency.
Flue gas desulfurization: reacts with sulfur dioxide to reduce industrial waste gas pollution.

4 Metallurgical industry
Aluminum smelting: used for leaching and purification of bauxite.
Metal surface treatment: remove metal oxide layer and assist electroplating process.

5 Textile and Paper Manufacturing
Cotton and linen degreasing: removing oil and impurities from fibers.
Paper bleaching: Adjust the pH value of the pulp to enhance the bleaching effect.
