This product is a highly selective 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT3) receptor antagonist that can inhibit nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It has high intensity and high selectivity, and can control vomiting caused by receptor stimulation in the small intestine and CTZ. Suitable for treating nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as for preventing and treating nausea and vomiting caused by surgery.

Application&Function

Ondansetron is a potent and highly selective serotonin receptor antagonist that can effectively inhibit or alleviate nausea and vomiting caused by cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs and radiotherapy. Its efficacy is superior to metoclopramide. It has a rapid and strong inhibitory effect on vomiting caused by chemotherapy drugs with strong emetic effects (such as cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, etc.), but is ineffective against motion sickness and vomiting caused by apomorphine. The exact mechanism of action of ondansetron is currently not fully understood. It is generally believed that chemotherapy and radiotherapy can cause the release of serotonin (5-HT) from chromaffin cells in the small intestine, and stimulate the vagus afferent nerves through 5-HT3 receptors, leading to the vomiting reflex, which can be blocked by ondansetron. This effect is 100 times stronger than the traditional antiemetic drug metoclopramide. The excitement of vagrancy can also cause the release of 5-HT in the posterior branch of the fourth ventricle, which can trigger vomiting through central mechanisms. The mechanism by which ondansetron controls nausea and vomiting caused by cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs and radiation therapy may be due to its antagonism of peripheral and central 5-HT3 receptors. The mechanism of action of ondansetron for postoperative nausea and vomiting is unknown. At the same time, ondansetron can enhance gastric emptying at antiemetic doses and help alleviate nausea; It also has anti anxiety and effects on the central nervous system
