  • A rate study of the hydrolysis of the hexafluoroarsenate(V) ion
  • Add time:07/20/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

The rate of hydrolysis of the AsF6− was examined over a wide range of both acidic and basic conditions in aqueous solutions. No hydrolysis was detected in basic solutions, but it was possible to follow the rate of decomposition in concentrated sulfuric acid. The rate equation found was that for a first-order reversible reaction in hexafluoroarsenate with a dependence of this rate constant on the acidity. The rate constant correlated with the H_ acidity function, as would be expected for a reaction in which the protonation of the AsF6− ion was prior to the rate determining step. The rate law was thus of the form d[[AsF6−]dt= k′[AsF6−]10H−
