Three novel compounds constructed with HL, namely [CoL2]n (1), [CuL2]n (2) and [CuL2]n (3) (HL = 4-benzoimidazol-1-yl-methyl benzoic acid) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, XRD, TGA, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Besides the coordinated bonds, strong C–H⋯π and π⋯π stacking interactions between the HL ligands are also found in the structures of compounds 1–3 to construct the 3D frameworks. Compounds 1–3 have been tested for their catalytic properties. The results indicate that compound 1 shows better conversion for the cyanosilylation of benzaldehyde. Fluorescence properties of the compounds have also been investigated in detail.
