The synthesis and characterization of 1-O-hexadecyl-and 1-O-octadecyl-3-O-phosphorylethanolamine-2-propanone are described. Ketal derivatives of these compounds were isolated and purified by column chromatography on silica gel in an overall yield of 21 and 27%. The availability of these new keto phospholipids could be important in biosynthetic studies of alkyl glycerolipids, plasmalogens, and related derivatives.
