    A number of hydrazinium(2+) and hydrazinium(1+) fluorotantalates(V) has been isolated from the solutions of tantalum pentafluoride in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride or solutions of tantalum in hydrofluoric acid of various concentrations using different mole ratios of the reactants. N2H6(TaF6)2 and N2H6TaF7 have been isolated from anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, N2H6TaF7·H2O and (N2H5)2TaF7 but from 45% and 5% hydrofluoric acid, respectively. The compositions of two groups of products correspond to the formulae (N2H6)3(TaF8)2·H2O and N2H5HTaF7·H2O. The existence of these two compounds is, however, somewhat doubtful. I.R. spectra of the solids are compared with the spectra of the related known fluorotantalates. The formation conditions of the isolated materials are discussed in terms of the published Raman study of complex ions formed by tantalum(V) in a similar system.
