The reaction of pyridine-2-carbonitrile (2-CNpy) with 2-amino-2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-propanediol (AL1) , 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol (AL2) and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AL3) in ethanolic solutions of Cu (II) and Co (II) salts led to the formation of solid complexes containing 2- (2-pyridinyl) -4,4-bis (hydroxymethyl) -2-oxazoline (pyoxaL1) , 2- (2-pyridinyl) -4-hydroxymethyl-4-methyl-2-oxazoline (pyoxaL2) and 2- (2-pyridinyl) -4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazoline (pyoxaL3) , respectively. Their stereochemistry and the mode of ligand coordination have been determined by spectral, magnetic and conductometric measurements. The crystal structure of [CuBr (2- (2-pyridinyl) -4,4-bis (hydroxymethyl) -2-oxazoline) 2] Br · 0.5H2O was determined by X-ray diffraction technique. The influence of Cu (II) and Co (II) salts on the formation of 2-pyridinyl-2-oxazolines is briefly compared with that of Ni (II) salts.
