    Four modifications of AuBr exist. The low temperature form α-AuBr transforms at 85–100 °C to P-AuBr. P-AuBr is stable up to 197 °C and I-AuBr between 197 °C and 298 °C; above 298 °C until 330 °C a b.c.c. phase is observed. The transition I-AuBr → P-AuBr below 197 °C is sluggish; the transition P-AuBr → α-AuBr could not be established.The heats of transition of P-AuBr → I-AuBr and I-AuBr → b.c.c. AuBr are 360 ± 40 and 915 ± 70 cal mol−1, respectively. B.c.c.-AuBr (a = 4.880 Å) has a disordered structure (Z = 2); α-AuBr probably has a structure related to that of I-AuBr. The electrical conductivities of semiconducting P-AuBr and I-AuBr are reported.
