The syntheses, crystal growths and crystal structures of the (Rb,Cs)n−2Mo3nTe3n+2 (n = 4, 5, 6, 8) compounds are reported. They crystallize in the space group R-3 for even n and in P63/m for odd n. The Mo-Mo distances within the different Mo3n clusters observed in the tellurides and the analogous sulfides and selenides synthesized previously are compared. Single crystal resistivity measurements on Cs2Mo12Te14 show a metallic behaviour in the 2–300 K temperature range.
