  • Synthesis, crystal structure and optical properties of a novel zinc SAMARIUM PHOSPHIDE (cas 12066-50-1) (Zn3SmP3)
  • Add time:07/28/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

A new ternary phosphide, Zn3SmP3, was synthesized by direct reaction of the elements. Recrystallization by isothermal chemical vapor transport, using iodine as the transporting agent, yielded single crystals. The structure of Zn3SmP3 was refined from single crystal X-ray data in the hexagonal space group P6322 to an R value of 5.9%. The lattice parameters are a = 4.0167(4) Å and c = 19.8754(1) Å. This new material sinters at temperatures near 700°C, has a melting point above 1100°C, and does not react with water at room temperature. Analysis of optical reflectance spectra of Zn3SmP3 has shown that this new phosphide is a semiconductor with an indirect band gap of 0.60 eV.
