The removal of gaseous carbon bisulfide (CS2) in air stream via dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) combined with TiO2 coated attapulgite catalyst was investigated at atmospheric pressure and room temperature. The nano-TiO2/attapulgite photocatalytic composite was prepared by sol–gel method and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis evidenced the coating of anatase TiO2 on attapulgite surface. CS2 removal efficiency was examined as a function of TiO2 to attapulgite ratio, catalyst position in DBD reactor, initial CS2 concentration, input power, and gas residence time. The results showed that the addition of TiO2 coated attapulgite with a TiO2-to-attapulgite mass ratio of 3:1 in DBD discharge section could improve CS2 removal efficiency by 10% as compared with bare DBD treatment. Moreover, the possible reaction pathways were proposed based on the products identified by FT-IR. Experimental results demonstrated the potential of DBD-catalyst for odor gas elimination from gas streams.
