During direct trifluoroethoxylation, both the 2-chloro group and the three fluoro groups of 2,5-dichloro-3-trifluoromethylpyridine were substituted by trifluoroethoxy groups. The product was characterized by mass spectrometry and by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. A possible reaction mechanism is suggested.
