Novel yellow phosphor based on BaSi2O5:Gd3+&Mn2+ was prepared via melt-quenching technique. Different heat treatment schedules, based on Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), were applied to study sequence of crystallization. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed crystallization of pure sanbornite (BaSi2O5) with orthorhombic structure with crystallite size in the 30-40 nm rang. Cell parameters revealed incorporation of the doping elements in the crystal structure. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) certifies the crystallization of well developed orthorhombic BaSi2O5 in nanosize. Vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) shows a paramagnetic behavior for both glass and glass ceramic structure. Photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra obtain significant change with changing heat treatment parameters from yellow to blue color. The obtained phosphor is potential for practical application and optical devices.
