Monolayer black phosphorus (MLBP) exhibits a strong anisotropic electronic band structure. This feature can result in anisotropic optical conductivities polarized along the armchair and zigzag directions. We examine theoretically the role of the strain presented in different directions on optical properties of MLBP via computing the dynamic dielectric function. It is found that the features of the optical absorption are sensitive to the chemical potential and the applied strain. The dependence of the extinction coefficient and/or absorption properties for x- and y-polarized light is anisotropic. The obtained results demonstrate that the significantly tuned extinction and optical absorption coefficients using strain engineering in MLBP can be applied for designing the novel optoelectronic devices.
