  • A study of the thermal and AC impedance properties of N-phenyldithiocarbamate complexes of Zn(II)

Zinc (II) complexes of phenyl dithiocarbamate and para-methylphenyl dithiocarbamate ligands, represented as [Zn(S2CNHPh)2] and [Zn(S2CNHp-MePh)2], have been synthesized and characterized. The thermal properties and the ionic conductivity of the complexes were investigated using TG/DSC analysis and AC impedance spectroscopy. The thermal decomposition of the compounds occurred by a rapid and huge weight loss, resolvable into two sub-steps, to give zinc sulphide. The AC impedance studies of the compounds indicate a semicircle within the region of measured frequencies, and a low frequency inclined spike due to the conduction of the grain. The spike towards the lower frequency range in the impedance plot is attributed to the conductivity of grains. From the temperature dependent conductivity studies, it was observed that the conductivity increases with increase in temperature. Line fittings were used to evaluate the activation energy of the complexes, [Zn(S2CNHPh)2] and [Zn(S2CNHp-MePh)2], and the values were found to be 0.3986 and 0.0246 eV, respectively, at high-temperature between 373 K and 473 K.
