  • A STUDY OF STRONG ORAL ANALGESICS: THE RELIEF OF POSTOPERATIVE PAIN USING DEXTROMORAMIDE, PENTAZOCINE AND bezitramide (cas 15301-48-1)
  • Add time:08/07/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

Pentazocine 50 mg and bezitramide 10 mg were compared with dextromoramide 10 mg in two separate investigations in the treatment of moderate or severe postoperative pain. In a single-dose, double-blind, between-patient comparison of oral pentazocine and oral dextromoramide, involving 149 patients, no statistically significant difference was demonstrated in the analgesic efficacy of the two drugs. The duration of action of pentazocine was found to be slightly shorter. Side effects were reported by only 27 patients and in most instances these were of a mild character. Significantly more patients in the dextromoramide group complained of moderate or severe dizziness. Pentazocine 50 mg by mouth is suitable for the relief of postoperative pain and may have particular advantages in allowing patients to become ambulant in the early postoperative period. Because of the high incidence of side effects, bezitramide was given to only 47 patients. It appeared to be a long-acting, effective analgesic but further study was precluded by the high incidence of nausea and vomiting that followed when it was administered alone.
