Publisher SummaryThyrotropin releasing factor (TRF) is a tripeptide the synthesis that can be readily accomplished by peptide chemists. This is emphasized by the large number of reports describing such synthesis. Two general methods—classic synthesis as opposed to solid phase synthesis—can be used, each of them have its advantages. Classic synthesis does not require any special equipment but the regular stirrers, rotatory evaporators, and glassware found in any organic laboratory. Solid phase synthesis may require such equipment as HF train, special shakers, and vessels, even though very simple and inexpensive apparatus can be and has been devised. This technique is very versatile, thus making it the method of choice for synthesizing small quantities of active peptides such as the releasing factors.
