The preparation of compounds with the general formula LnP3O9·3H2O (where Ln La, Ce, Pr) is reported. Thermogravimetric analysis of the compounds showed that they decompose to the corresponding phosphates with evolution of P2O5. Powder diffraction data are presented and the i.r. spectra supported a D3h symmetry for the P3O93− anion in the above compounds.
