The sparingly soluble complex formed between vanadium(V) and 4-(2-thiazolylazo)resorcinol (5) requires extraction with chloroform, whereas maximum color development for the complex with 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol (4) takes place after 60 min. Since 1-(2′-thiazolylazo)-2-naphthol (TAN) has been found to be a sensitive chromogenic reagent (2), its reaction with vanadium(V) has been studied.
