The low cost ZnO and ZnO:Eu3+ (0.1-4.0 mol%) were synthesized by solution combustion at 600 ± 10°C using plant powder as a fuel and Zinc nitrate as a precursor. The powder X-ray diffraction confirms that the presence of wurzite hexagonal type and existence of secondary phase reveals that Eu3+ ions successfully incorporated on ZnO lattice. SEM suggests that morphology of synthesized NPs were contain many voids and pores The band region around 400-500 cm-1 in the FT-IR spectra is the characteristic stretching mode of Zn and O. Photocatalytic activity of as synthesized ZnO and ZnO:Eu3+ (0.1-4.0 mol%) was studied by using dye C.I Acid red 88 on catalytic surface under UV irradiation.
