  • Spectroscopic (Raman, FT-IR, and NMR) study of alkaline metal nicotinates and isonicotinates
  • Add time:08/11/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

The FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium and caesium isonicotinates were registered, assigned, analysed and compared to the vibrational spectra of the same metal nicotinates published earlier. The NMR (1H and 13C) spectra of alkaline metal isonicotinates and nicotinates were registered and analysed as well. The spectral assignment was based on the literature data, theoretical calculations and our previous experience. The analysis of data of independent spectral methods (vibrational and NMR) allowed us to increase the accuracy in comparing differences in electronic charge distribution of the aromatic ring caused by different metal ions and nitrogen position in the ring. Characteristic shift of band wavenumbers and change in bands intensities along the metal series was observed. Some of the bands connected with carboxylic anion vibrations changed their wavenumbers regularly along the studied metal series while some of them scattered. The influence of the kind of complexed metal and nitrogen position versus carboxylate anion in the aromatic ring on the electronic charge distribution and macroscopic properties of the studied compounds were discussed. We have established, that small change in electronic properties (characterised by spectral data) brings about an essential change in macroscopic properties such as melting point, solubility in water or fats. The vibrational spectra of solid state and water solutions of studied complexes were compared in selected regions.
