  • Stimulation of ribosomal and DNA-like RNA synthesis by α-methyltryptophan
  • Add time:08/15/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

Rapidly labeled nuclear RNA from rat liver was fractionated by methyl albumin kieselguhr chromatography into the ribosomal and DNA-like RNA components. Injection of 100 mg/kg of α-methyltryptophan into rats stimulated the labeling by [3H] orotic acid of both species of nuclear RNA; there was a greater effect on the ribosomal than on the RNA-like fraction. This stimulatory effect of α-methyltryptophan could not be accounted for by an increase in the uptake of the labeled nucleoside by the liver, nor by the increase in the specific activity of the nucleoside and nucleotide pool of the liver.
