Infra-red spectra were observed for dibenzenechromium (I) iodide, [Cr(C6H6)2]I, and ditoluenechromium (I) iodide, [Cr(C6H5CH3)2]I, in the region of 300–4000 cm−1, and vibrational assignments were made for their main absorption bands.The values of the CH out-of-plane force constants were calculated for the ligand benzene and toluene molecules, and the results were found to be very informative when compared with those calculated for the free state of these aromatic molecules.
