Gaseous BROMOMETHYLDIMETHYLCHLOROSILANE (cas 16532-02-8) and 2-bromo-1-chloro-2-methylpropane have been studied by electron diffraction at room temperature. Both molecules exist as mixtures of gauche and anti forms. For bromomethyldimethylchlorosilane, the mole fraction values are 0.55(9) gauche, and 0.45(9) anti. The important geometrical parameter values are (rg and ∢α):r(CH) 1.091(14) Å, r(SiC)av 1.857(3) Å, r(CBr) 1.995(17) Å, r(SiCl) 2.065(4) Å, ∢HSiC 113.3°(3.5), ∢CSiC 114.2°(5.1), τg(torsional angle for the gauche form, O° corresponds to the syn form with eclipsing SiCl and CBr bonds) 58°(15) and τa 157°(9). For 2-bromo-1-chloro-2-methyl propane, the mole fraction values are 0.35(7) gauche, and 0.65(7) anti. The important geometrical parameter values are (rg and ∢α): r(CH) 1.088(7) Å, r(CC) av 1.532(3) Å, r(CCl) 1.798(5), Å, r(CBr) 1.989(8) Å, ∢CCBr = 106.4°(0.4), ∢ClCC 115.5°(1.4), ∢CCC 113°(2), τg 54°(4) and τa 159°(3).
