Room temperature polarized Raman scattering and infrared reflectance spectra of a Chrysoberyl (cas 1304-50-3) single crystal have been measured. The IR spectra interpretation was aided by a Kramers-Krönig analysis. Thirty-one out of 36 theoretically expected Raman active bands have been identified and assigned. Their frequencies were found to be about 11 cm−1 higher than recently reported by Weigi et al. (Kexue Tongbao30, 452, 1985), with five of their reported weak bands not validated. All 35 expected IR active bands are identified and assigned. An energy scheme diagram for the Davydov splitting in the crystal of the BeO46−v1 internal mode is illustrated.
