The extraction of hydrochloric acid by TRI-N-HEXYLAMINE (cas 102-86-3) dissolved in n-octane has been studied, at low acid concentration, by e.m.f. measurements. The experimental data were treated graphically as well as numerically by means of the general minimizing program LETAGROP. They indicate the formation of the species THAHCl and (THAHCl)3 in the organic phase. An equation is proposed and the formation constants for these species are given. In the range of amine concentration studied (9.7–144.5 mM) no solid phase formation was observed.
