The reaction of nido-B5H9 with MeHSi(NMe2)2 yields a new silyl substituted tetraborane(8) derivative (Me2N)2BH2MeSiB4H8 (1). The silyl substituent is part of a new four membered ring system SiR2(NR′2)2BH2+ · The reaction product has been characterized by X-ray crystallography, multinuclear and multidimensional NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analyses.
