  • Proneness to alternating copolymerization on interaction of 2-Methyl-5-vinylpyridine (cas 140-76-1), dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate and their quarternary salts
  • Add time:07/20/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

It is shown that on intersection of 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine (I) and dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate (II) with the quarternary of salt dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate with ethyl bromide (III) in an ethanolic medium at 313 K alternant copolymerization takes place. The interaction of compounds (I) and (II) with compound (III) occurs by the donor-acceptor mechanism where the donors are I and II and the acceptor III. The formation of the donor-acceptor complex was demonstrated by UV spectroscopy. Such an assumption was also confirmed from the IR spectra. The copolymers obtained dissolve readily in water and have a high MM for an equimolar ratio of the initial monomers so that they may be used as highly effective flocculants.
