By means of an experiment a concentration technique of organic micropollutants in raw water has been developed. This technique is based on the continuous pump, from the river bed, of an unchanging flow of 2 l/h on various solid supports (activated carbon, XAD-2 resins). By means of solvent extraction from the supports, using CH2Cl2 and diethyl ether respectively, followed by concentration of the eluate using a rotary evaporator, a concentration factor—related to the raw water—of approx. 106 is obtained. This method provides us with an integrated sample corresponding to the 30 day period of the test. In this paper we present the results obtained in the study of micropollutants in the Ardisa Dam (Gallego River). The chemical analysis of acid and base + neutral fractions by gas chromatography connected to a mass spectrometer (GC/MS) has allowed us to identify more than 220 different chemical substances: aromatic hydrocarbons, chloride compounds, aromatic heterocycles, terpenes, steroids, plasticizers, aldehydes, ketones, quinones and esters. Of these, 22 are included in the list of the 130 substances liable to appear on the 76/464/EEC Directive and 21 have been quantified.
