In nanocrystalline metals, the formation of deformation twins is more likely through either random activation of partials (RAP) or cooperative slip of three partials (CSTP), which produces zero macroscopic strain. In their coarse-grained counterparts, deformation twins produce a net macroscopic strain and change the grain shape. Here, we report the formation of large scaled zero-strain deformation twins in coarse-grained Cu-Al alloys. The results showed that the split length of 9R phase dissociated from zero-strain deformation twins was affected significantly by the stacking fault energy. A higher stacking fault energy results in a longer split length of 9R phase.
