For the first time the antioxidant flavonoid of 7-hydroxy-4´-methoxy-isoflavon was extracted from the leaf of Commelina diffusa and used as reducing and stabilizing agent to biosynthesis of The Cu/ZrO2 nanocomposite (NCs). The extracted flavonoid was characterized using Uv–vis spectroscopy, 1H NMR and 13C NMR techniques. Further, the biosynthesized nanocomposite was characterized by using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy. The green synthesized catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance in the reduction of 2,4-dinitrophenilhydrazine (2,4-DNPH) and various organic dyes such as Congo red (CR), Nigrosin (NS) and methyl orange (MO) in the presence of NaBH4 at room temperature. The reusability studies showed that the as-synthesized nanocomposite can be easily recovered and reused several times without significant decrease in its performance.
