SummaryA reaction scheme based on polarographic, controlled-potential electrolysis and cyclic voltammetric data has been proposed for the electrochemical reduction of the triphenylsulfonium ion in aqueous solution. Comparison of the reduction process with those of other analogus “onium” compounds of Group Va indicates that there are both similarities and interesting differences in their reaction paths. The role of adsorption appears to be an important one in the overall process.
