The structure of the aglycone of mycoside G isolated from Mycobacterium marinum (balneï) has been established by mass spectrometry and confirmed by degradation. This aglycone is a phenol with a long aliphatic glycolic side chain, the hydroxyle functions of which are esterified with normal and branched chain fatty acids (formula II). It does not differ from the aglycones of mycosides A and B except for the length of the aliphatic glycolic side chain of the main constituant (χ 20 instead of 18 for mycoside A and 16 for mycoside B).Structural variants are found among the homologues of phenol-glycol G: one has a methyl branching in the (CH2χx portion of the molecule, others have a ketonic function instead of the methoxyl function.
