The effect of hydrogen bonds on chromatographic separations is demonstrated on the example of amino- and hydroxyanthraquinones and their O- and N-methyl derivatives. The RE values were used to chooose a set of new stationary phases and to demonstrate the dependence between the shift in the RF values for compounds with hydrogen bonds and the overall energy of the hydrogen bonds of all the donor and acceptor groups in the corresponding stationary phase.
