  • Electrodilatometry 5: Triton X-100 (reduced form) in cyclohexane☆
  • Add time:08/22/2019         Source:sciencedirect.com

The reduced form of TX-100 (RTX-100) has been investigated by a new technique of electrodilatometry (ED). ED is found to be very sensitive to hydrogen-bonded systems and has been applied to investigate simple liquids, selected alcohols, and regular TX-100. In this report, ED is used to study binary mixtures of RTX-100 in cyclohexane over a concentration range of 0.672 to 1.64 molal (m), at 298 K. The relative volume change per square of applied electric field strength (E2) is expressed in the form of parameter R and is known as electrodilatometric effect (EDE). R increases from 1.70×10−17 m2/V2 at 0.0672 m to 9.31×10−16 m2/V2 at 1.64 m. The sign of R is positive for all concentrations, indicating that the volume is increased with the externally applied field. Comparison is made between the results of this reduced form (RTX-100) and the previous results of regular TX-100.
