This work is devoted to the study of NULL (cas 101051-09-6) rules applied to the detection of intervals where functions have lower regularity. Null rules were introduced in the construction of automatic quadrature routines and some of these are currently the core of algorithms for automatic quadrature.The calculation of linear null rules on an assigned set of points is considered and analyzed. It is shown that it is possible to construct in a stable manner these rules using standard tools. Then the application of null rules in the new framework is considered. Numerical tests are included to prove the behavior of these, also in cases of interest for isogeometric analysis.
