Groups comprising 35 male and 35 female rats were maintained for two years on diets containing O (control groups), 0.1, 0.5, and 15% DnHA. Growth was retarded in the groups given the 15% diets, otherwise all groups grew normally. Food consumptions were normal.Urine analyses and hematologic studies made periodically gave normal values.Kidney weights were elevated in the groups given the 15% diet, otherwise organ weights lay in the normal ranges.A thorough histologic examination revealed no changes that were attributed certainly to the treatment. Two bladder papillomas were found, one in a male rat given the 15% diet, the other in a female rat given the 0.1% diet.Groups of 3 beagle dogs each were maintained for one year on daily doses of O (control group), 0.1 g/kg, 0.5 g/kg, and 3.0 g/kg, DnHA. Body weights showed no significant changes.Urine samples and blood samples gave only normal findings.A thorough histologic study gave no evidence of any tissue change that was attributed to the administration of DnHA.
