Pancreastatin (PST) is a biologically active peptide isolated first from porcine pancreas. Its origin takes place in chromogranin A proteolysis within the neuroendocrine and gastrointestinal systems. Although ample metabolic effects, such as modulation of secretion of different glands, as well as general metabolism regulation, have been described, the putative physiological role of PST has not yet been established. This article seeks to describe the synthesis and secretion of PST as well as its biological activities in a number of tissues.
