In this paper, we report the first rotaxane structure of p-sulfonatocalix[8]arene as part of a supramolecular 3D co-ordination polymer. In this structure, 4, 4′-bipyridine-N, N’-dioxide (bpdo) as the linear axle and p-sulfonatocalix[8]arene as the wheel have been reported. The structure provides new opportunities for large calixarenes as wheels to be applied in the field of metal–organic rotaxane frameworks.
