Tungsten powder reacts with an excess of the respective mixtures of alkali metal amides in autoclaves above 600°C to give the quarternary alkali metal nitrido tungstates(VI) Na2K[WN3] and Na11Rb[(WN3)4] embedded in alkali metals. The nitrides were isolated by extracting the metals with liquid ammonia. The structures were determined from X-ray single crystal data.
