  • Studies on organolanthanide complexes. XI. Preparation of dimeric dicyclopentadienylLUTETIUM HYDRIDE (cas 13598-44-2) by reduction of dicyclopentadienyl lutetium chloride with sodium hydride; its X-ray crystal structure and reactivity

    Dimeric di-η5-cyclopentadienyllutetium hydride was prepared by the reaction of dicyclopentadienyl- lutetium chloride with sodium hydride in THF at ambient temperature. The solution was concentrated and cooled to −30 °C to afford the crystalline complex [(η5-C5H5)2LuH·OC4H8]2. The crystals of [(η5-C5H5)2LuH·OC4H8]2 belong to the triclinic space group P1 with a = 8.022(2), b = 10.868(3), c = 8.008(3) Å, α = 109.48(2), β = 103.06(2), γ = 90.84(2)°, V = 618.0(3) Å3, Z = 1, Dc = 2.033 g cm−3, μ(Mo Kα) = 83.66 cm−1. The least-squares refinement based on 1964 observed reflections led to a final R value of 0.062. The two independent Lu-H (bridge) distances are 1.99(2) and 2.10(2) Å, respectively. The reactions of [(η5-C5H5)2LuH· OC4H8]2 with 1-hexene, 1-hexyne, phenylacetylene and diphenylethyne were studied.
