The distribution equilibria of 1-phenyl-1,2-propanedione-2-oxime (PPO) and of the copper(II)-PPO and nickel(II)-PPO complexes in the water-chloroform system have been studied at 25°C. From the graphical treatment of the equilibrium data it has been deduced that PPO dimerizes in the organic phase, copper is extracted as the CuL2(HL) and CuL2(HL)2 complexes and nickel as NiL2 and NiL2(HL). These models have been checked by treating the data with the LETAGROP-DISTR program and the following equilibrium constants have been obtained: PPO, pKa = 9.25±0.03, log KDR = 1.60±0.02, log K2 = 0.60±0.06; copper(II)-PPO, logβ1 = 5.9±0.1, logβ2 = 11.56±0.05, logKDCKm.1 = 2.7 ± 0.1, log Km.2 = 1.0±0.1; nickel(II)-PPO, NiL2 log Kex = 13.57±0.05, NiL2(HL), log Kex = − 12.6±0.1.
