A new nitronyl nitroxide NIT-Ph-m-OCH2trz (1) and its complexes [M(hfac)2]2(NIT-Ph-m-OCH2trz)2 (M = Mn (2), Co (3); NIT-Ph-m-OCH2trz = 2-(3-((1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methoxy)phenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide; hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate) have been successfully synthesized and the molecular structures were elucidated by single-crystal X-ray structural analysis. The single-crystal structures show that complexes 2 and 3 have similar structures, in which a NIT-Ph-m-OCH2trz molecule acts as a bridging ligand linking two M(II) ions through the oxygen atom of the NO group and nitrogen atom from the triazole ring to form a four-spin system. Magnetic study shows that the manganese(II) and cobalt(II) ion strongly antiferromagnetically interacts with the directly bonding NO group.
