    Developing highly efficient and environmentally friendly methods of creating and storing renewable energy to solve the global energy crisis and environmental pollution problems is one of the most pressing needs we will face in the near future. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have attracted significant interest as an appealing energy storage device for a wide variety of applications, such as portable electronic devices and electric and hybrid vehicles, due to their high energy density, high operational voltage, low self-discharge rate, and no memory effect. Electrospun nanofibers, which have high specific surface area, high porosity, good interconnected porous structure, and controllable fiber diameter, are promising candidates to enhance the electronic and ionic conductivity of LIBs, and thus improve their cyclability and rate capability. More interestingly, the nanofibers can be functionalized to control the property (i.e., electrolyte affinity, pore size, and thermal stability) better, thus further enhancing the cell performance of LIBs. This chapter gives a detailed overview of recent advances of LIBs based on electrospun nanofibers, describe the design and fabrication of anode, cathode, and separator nanofibers, and discusses their structure variables and cell performances.
