Balekjian and Longton (1973) suggested the histidine-rich-polypeptides (HRP) in parotid saliva might be nuclear histones. HRP were isolated from parotid saliva of Macaca mulatta. Nuclear histones were prepared from parotid glands and liver of this species. Comparison by amino-acid composition and electrophoretic behaviour showed that HRP are not nuclear histones.
