Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is one of the most produced thermoplastics in the world. PET is used extensively in the food and beverage industry, and for this reason it is the thermoplastic producing the highest amount of waste. Due to its intensive production, the disposal of waste PET has been an environmental problem for many years. Since disposal of PET by pyrolysis methods leads to carbon emissions, waste PET utilization by building materials, especially in concrete production, is the most preferred option. However, instead of direct use of PET in building materials, alternative methods may also be preferred. Dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) obtained from waste PET is an oily substance and is compatible with concrete raw materials, which can make it an attractive material to be used as building materials. For this reason, the performance of DOTP-reinforced concrete is important for determining the direction of waste PET disposal. In this chapter, DOTP-reinforced concrete performance studies in the literature will be comparatively examined with that of PET-reinforced concrete studies.
